Dr Robert Biswas-Diener and Prof. Christian van Nieuwerburgh present their latest thinking about Positive Psychology Coaching based on a number of recent writing projects. What is a Positive Psychology Coach? What does a Positive Psychology Coach need to know? How is Positive Psychology Coaching different from other approaches? The speakers will explore and address these questions and demonstrate the approach during the session. There will be opportunity for participants to ask questions and discuss their ideas.

18:15 to 19:00 - Communicating your way to well-being (Workshop)

Dr Tim Lomas (Senior Lecturer in Positive Psychology MAPP-CP UEL) and Dr Kirsty Gardiner (Lecturer in Positive Psychology MAPP-CP UEL)

This workshop explores the ways in which language and communication shapes our understanding and experience of well-being. We will touch upon some theory and research before offering some practical activities including how to have meaningful conversations and how to engage creatively with language to enhance wellbeing.

Dr Andrea Giraldez-Hayes (Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer in Coaching Psychology - MAPP-CP UEL) & Julia Papworth (Lecturer in Coaching Psychology - MAPP-CP UEL)

Although coaching supervision has not traditionally been considered as part of the coaching training, in the last few years more organisations have been integrating supervision during the formative stage. This workshop invites you to consider the importance of reflective practice and supervision for your development as a coach, and how do professional coaches become supervisors.

Whilst there are continued debates about the emerging field of Positive Psychology Coaching, there is continued research on the beneficial outcomes of positivity on our wellbeing. In this keynote presentation Dr Suzy Green will provide an overview of the science of positivity and argue for its explicit usage in positive psychology coaching.

How is it possible to navigate times of brief, extended or even lifelong challenge, and perhaps flourish in the process of doing so? Perhaps the important question becomes: When you cannot control the storm, what do you want to be wearing whilst you are out in the rain?

Discover how a process of guided discovery can be used to demonstrate that each of us – YOU included – has a set of innate strengths that, with the right line of enquiry, ‘reveal themselves’, as if by magic. Within five minutes of this interactive workshop, you’ll be able to apply some of the ‘insider secrets’ which lay at the heart of strengths-based approaches in CBT.
